ICCA (INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS AND CONVENTION ASSOCIATION) 2016 CRAFT PROGRAMME

The following workshops for the spouses of delegates were conducted at the Ranee Boutique Suites.



THE ART OF MAKING MARIK EMPANG

A traditional beaded collar worn by Sarawak’s native Iban tribe as part of their traditional costume.

Facilitator:  Catherine, a self-taught artist, well known for her marik empang designs.


THE ART OF WEAVING WIRE JEWELLERY

A play of different gauges of wire to create structure, texture and pattern for a jewellery piece.

Facilitator:  Eileen Phoan, the founder of Left & Right Artisan Handcraft.


DAYAK MOTIF PAINTING

Learn the art of painting Dayak motifs on river rocks.

Facilitator:  Abot, a local Bidayuh artist, famous for painting Orang Ulu motifs on unusual surfaces.


PAPER-BEAD MAKING

Learn the art of rolling recycled paper into paper beads and stringing them into a necklace with the help of the autistic children from Heart Treasures.

Facilitator:  The special youths from Heart Treasures, a social non-profit making organisation who train autistic and disadvantaged youths with craft skills.


BATIK WAXING AND SILK PAINTING

A hands-on session of batik silk painting with resident artist, Narong Daun.

Facilitator:  Narong Daun, Borneo’s finest indigenous silk-batik artist.
